The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the venue for the flag-off of its presidential campaign, scheduled to hold in Sokoto State on Wednesday.

The party’s Presidential Campaign Coordinator in the state, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, disclosed that the event would take place at the ADC secretariat, located at No. 1 Ilorin Road, Sokoto.

Lamido said party members and invited dignitaries were already making preparations for the campaign kick-off.

The announcement came after the opposition party initially withheld the venue over allegations of intimidation and attempts to disrupt its campaign activities.

The party’s decision to keep the venue undisclosed followed claims of political intimidation and suppression in the state.

Daily Trust reported that the ADC governorship candidate in Sokoto, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, reportedly escaped unhurt after gunmen opened fire on his convoy near the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport on Friday night.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) denied allegations that it was responsible for the attack.

Three days after the incident, an ADC campaign office was reportedly sealed. The party also alleged that the Sokoto State Government had denied it access to a suitable venue for the campaign launch.

On Tuesday night, former Vice-President and ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, alleged that the APC and the Department of State Services (DSS) were plotting to disrupt the party’s inaugural presidential campaign.

In a statement, Lamido said Atiku was expected to arrive at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, by 9am on Wednesday.

The statement invited party supporters and members of the public to receive the former Vice-President at the airport before proceeding to the campaign venue.

It also urged party executives across the 23 local government areas and wards, mobilisation coordinators, support groups, women and youth organisations to activate their structures and ensure maximum participation.

The campaign flag-off is expected to mark the beginning of the ADC’s efforts to mobilise support for Atiku ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
