Amidst 3 gunrunners arrested, 36 kidnapped victims in Kebbi rescued

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), led by IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the 22nd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, has found N129,542,823,000 worth of counterfeit currency in Kano, with 3,366,000 of that amount being counterfeit US Dollars, 51,970 being counterfeit CFA Franc, and 1,443,000 being counterfeit Naira.
This was relayed via press release by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on December 10th, 2024.
Source disclosed that one Mr. Nura Ibrahim was accosted.
This led to the apprehension of his accomplices Mr. Muhammed Muntari and Mr. Usman Abdullahi, as well as the recovery of the counterfeit currencies.
According to ACP Adejobi: “This momentous achievement was recorded on the 8th of December 2024, at Gwale, Kano State, where police operatives acting on credible intelligence accosted one Nura Ibrahim ‘m’ and upon a conducted search, discovered N392,000 counterfeit notes, USD7800 counterfeit notes and 5 different ATM cards.
“Further investigation led to the arrest of his accomplices, Muhammed Muntari ‘m’, and Usman Abdullahi ‘m’ as well as the recovery of the other counterfeit currencies”, he added.
Amidst 3 gunrunners arrested
There was another development that stepped up efforts to combat gunrunning and the proliferation of weapons in the nation, according to the Force Public Relations Officer.
On December 9, 2024, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) arrested three suspected gunrunners along the Kaduna-Kano expressway in Kaduna State.
In his words: “In another development, intensifying the efforts against gunrunning and the proliferation of arms in the country, the Nigeria Police Force on the 9th of December 2024, arrested 3 suspected gunrunners identified as Buhari Suleiman ‘m’, Jamil Yakubu ‘m’, and Aliyu Abdullahi ‘m’, along the Kaduna-Kano expressway, Kaduna State.
“The suspects were apprehended after the police operatives noticed their suspicious activities and approached them to question them.
“A subsequent search was conducted, which led to the recovery of 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and 1 round of Ak-47 ammunition”, he stated.
36 kidnapped victims in Kebbi rescued
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi further stated a similar occurrence on December 8, 2024.
He said that police officers in Kebbi State saved 36 kidnapped victims who were making their way back from their fields along Mairairai/Bena Road in Danko/Wasagu LGA.
He said: “On the 8th December 2024, Police operatives in Kebbi State rescued 36 victims of kidnapping along Mairairai/Bena Road in Danko/Wasagu LGA who were returning from their respective farms.
“As a follow-up to the rescue, police operatives have visited the community to engage its members, debrief the rescued victims, and assure the people of its continuous readiness to ensure their safety and security”.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to fighting crime in all its manifestations.
This is particular in the economic saboteurs.
“The force remains vigilant, steadfast, and unforgiving towards those who would threaten the national security and economic progress of our dear country”, he added.
Earlier: NPF detained Dele Farotimi on charges of defamation
Omoyele Sowore, an African Action Congress (AAC) presidential contender for 2023, discussed Farotimi’s arrest on his official X handle on Tuesday.
According to reports, Dele Farotimi, a Nigerian Human Rights attorney, was arrested by the Nigerian Police Force.
Reports state that Farotimi was arrested on Tuesday due to a petition filed by Tony Elumelu of the UBA Group, which alleges that Farotimi defamed him.
Sowore wrote that he just heard that the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) arrested Dele Farotimi due to a petition that Tony Elumelu of the UBA Group wrote, claiming that Dele had defamed him.
Importantly, He said that NPF will not be able to use the institution to resolve personal disputes again.
And that we, Nigerians will not be able to put up with such a situation ever again.
Therefore, the Lagos Zone 2 police force has ordered the immediate release of Barrister Dele Farotimi.
Farotimi mentioned that NPF officers intend to transport him from Lagos.
Farotimi accused the police of using deceptive techniques to coerce him into agreeing to an arrest even though he didn’t accept the invitation from Zone 2 police headquarters in Lagos.
