In a bid to enhance transportation infrastructure, the governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has embarked on the construction of a new flyover.

While this initiative aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, it has sparked significant concerns among residents due to its potential negative impacts.

The proposed flyover is set to lead to the demolition of numerous homes and shops.

Many of which have been built with substantial investments running into millions of naira.

The government has promised compensation for those affected.

Notwithstanding, many fear that the amounts offered will fall short of the true value of their properties.

This has left residents feeling anxious and uncertain about their future, as they grapple with the loss of their businesses and homes.

Additionally, the construction has already disrupted the only direct route from Water Works to Afikpo Road.

The blockage of this road has created significant challenges for pedestrians, Keke riders, motorcyclists, and motorists alike.

The inconvenience has led to a dramatic increase in transportation costs.

The fare has risen from 300 naira to 700 naira for the same journey from Afikpo Road to Awka Street off Ojeowere.

This surge in prices is a direct result of the longer, more complicated routes that drivers are now forced to take.

The lack of a well-planned alternative route prior to the demolition of the existing road has exacerbated the situation.

Residents are calling for the government to prioritize the development of a secondary road.

This is expected to accommodate traffic during the construction phase.

This would not only alleviate the current congestion but also provide a smoother transition for those displaced by the project.

Moreover, immediate attention is needed to repair the already damaged road that is now being heavily utilized due to the flyover construction.

The government should allocate resources to fix potholes and improve road conditions to ensure safety for all users.

By addressing these issues, the government can mitigate the negative impacts of the flyover construction.

This would still it to pursue its goal of improving transportation infrastructure.

In conclusion, it is said that the new flyover project holds the promise of better traffic management and enhanced connectivity.

It is also crucial for the government to consider the well-being of its citizens.

A more comprehensive planning approach that needs to be put in place.

This should include adequate compensation, the development of alternative routes, and immediate road repairs.

This will help balance the benefits of infrastructure development with the needs of the community.
