Nigeria: Four federal legislators suspended for anti-party activities

Four lawmakers representing Kano State in Nigeria’s National Assembly have been suspended by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) over alleged anti-party activities.

The decision was announced on Monday in Kano by the party’s state chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa.

The suspended lawmakers include:
– Kawu Sumaila from Kano South
– Ali Gini of Dala Federal Constituency
– Sani Rogo of Rogo/Karaye Federal Constituency
– Kabiru Rurum from Rano/Kibiya Federal Constituency.

According to Dungurawa, the lawmakers were elected on the NNPP platform but have since been acting against the party’s interests.

He pointed to instances where they allegedly sidelined party members in their political activities.

One such example was Sumaila’s recent project inauguration at his university in Sumaila, which was done without involving NNPP members.

Dungurawa stated that a committee would be set up to investigate the issue and determine further actions.

He added that despite the suspension, the party is open to dialogue, and the lawmakers could be reinstated if they realign with the party’s values.
