Lamido slams El-Rufai over call to join SDP

Former Jigawa State Governor and PDP chieftain, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has criticized ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai over his recent political moves.

El-Rufai recently left the APC to align with the SDP and invited key opposition figures to join his new platform.

He called on politicians like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola to switch to the SDP.

Lamido rejected El-Rufai’s invitation, as reported by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), questioning his political consistency and commitment to his former parties.

Speaking in a BBC interview, Lamido asked why PDP members should abandon their party to follow El-Rufai.

He reminded Nigerians that the PDP played a crucial role in El-Rufai’s political rise.

“With all due respect, does he expect us in PDP to leave our party and follow him?” Lamido asked.

He emphasized that the PDP provided the foundation for El-Rufai’s success in politics.

“How can a grandson claim that his grandfather knows nothing?” Lamido added.

He recalled that El-Rufai previously dismissed political elders, portraying himself as a true power broker.

“But now, he wants us to believe he was an adviser to Buhari?” Lamido questioned.

“If he truly wielded such power, why did he need Buhari’s counsel?” he further asked.

Despite the PDP’s internal struggles, Lamido insisted that the party remained his political home.

He pointed out that El-Rufai’s achievements stemmed from the PDP, yet he now discredited the party.

“If the PDP is struggling today, it still nurtured El-Rufai,” Lamido stated.

“If he claims the PDP is dead, he should remember it gave him his political foundation,” he added.

Lamido questioned El-Rufai’s decision to leave the APC after years of supporting the ruling party.

“If I refused to leave the PDP in 2014 when the APC was formed, why should I leave now?” he asked.

“What exactly has the APC done to him that is making him jump ship?” Lamido further questioned.

He warned against making political decisions based on emotions or personal grievances.

“Leadership is about wisdom, patience, and working for national progress,” he stated.

“If emotions dictate your decisions, you can never lead effectively,” Lamido warned.

He stressed that opposition to Tinubu’s administration should be driven by national interest, not personal grievances.

“We must not oppose Tinubu simply out of anger or revenge,” Lamido emphasized.

“Leadership is about prioritizing the nation’s well-being over personal feelings,” he concluded.

With rising political tensions, Lamido’s remarks highlight the deep-rooted rivalries shaping Nigeria’s democracy.
