Nigerian Police Service Commission approves promotion of 20 AIGs, 19 CPs, others

The Nigerian Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 66 senior officers, including 20 new Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and 19 new Commissioners of Police (CPs).
This was announced in a press statement issued by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, Nigerian Police Service Commission issued on Monday, March 17, 2025.
According to the press statement, the new Assistant Inspectors General of Police include; Fasuba Akinyele Olabode of the Special Fraud Unit, Force Headquarters; Musibau Omolabi Ajani, CP Admin, FCID; Aliyu Abubakar Musa, CP Katsina State Command; and Patrick Adedeji Atayero, former CP of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit.
Others elevated to AIG include Gyogon Augustine Grimah, CP Cross River State Command, and Olaiya Victor Mobolaji, CP Kwara State Command.
The Commission also promoted Chukwudi Chris Ariekpere, CP Taraba State Command; Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, CP FOM, Force Headquarters; and Olalolu Adebowale Adegbite, CP Interpol FCID.
Rounding off the list of new AIGs are Disu Olatunji Rilwan, CP Federal Capital Territory, and Ifeanyi Uka, CP Works, Force Headquarters.
Among the 19 Deputy Commissioners promoted to Commissioners of Police are Usman Tahir, DCP R&P Force Headquarters; Sunday J.A. Okoebor, DCP Admin and Finance, Force Headquarters; and Saka Adewale Ajao, DCP Zonal CID, Zone 2, Lagos. Others include Hope Urunwa Okafor, former Deputy Force Provost, and Ayodeji Faniyan, DCP Zonal CID, Zone 5, Benin.
Additional officers promoted to CP include; Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, DCP DFA, Zone 17 Akure; Olufunke Adeayo, DC Pensions, Force Headquarters; and Stephen Olubunmi Ogedengbe, DCP X Squad, FCID Force Headquarters. Also making the list are Adebowale Lawal, DCP State CID, Enugu State Command; and Olubode Ojajuni, DCP State CID, Ogun State Command.
Beyond the top brass, the PSC also approved the promotion of 13 Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendents and elevated 14 Deputy Superintendents to the rank of Superintendent.
According to PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, all the promoted officers faced an examination and interactive interview before their elevation was confirmed.
The plenary session was chaired by PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, and supported by retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu and Commissioner Onyemuche Nnamani.
In a recent development, the Nigerian Police Service Commission (PSC) scheduled a promotion interview and examination for senior officers, specifically Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) seeking promotion to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
The session will take place on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the Parry Osayande Multipurpose Auditorium, PSC Corporate Headquarters, Plot 64, Cadastral Zone, Jabi, Abuja.
According to the official directive from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the interview will begin at 10:00 AM prompt.
The memo said all selected officers are to report at the Force Secretary’s Office, 4th Floor, Force Headquarters, Abuja, by 8:00 AM for briefing and conveyance to the venue.
Meanwhile, to ensure a smooth and secure exercise, the AIG Police Mobile Force (MOPOL) has been instructed to provide twelve armed officers for escort.
The Transport Department (TRANSFOR) will deploy three serviceable Coaster buses and two Hilux vans for transportation.
However, all vehicles and escort personnel are to be on standby at the Force Headquarters parade ground by 7am.
Officers are to appear in black shirts over green denim with berets, while those in tactical units should wear conventional black jackets with berets.
