Starting out as a youth coach Paris Saint Germaine, Motta soon returned to his native Italy to coach Genoa. The stint lasted just two months.

He then took over at Spezia, where he had a more successful spell, helping the team avoid relegation despite operating under a transfer ban.

His next move was to Bologna, where he had a more impressive run, guiding the team to a ninth-place finish in his first season, their highest league finish in over a decade.

He was later sacked by Bologna after strings of unimpressive results.

It remains to be seen where he pitches his tent next after leaving Juve.
