The Anambra state commissioner for women and social welfare, Ify Obinabo, has raised the alarm over an 18-year-old apprentice who allegedly impregnated 10 girls, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl, within five months.

According to Obinabo, the boy was sent to learn a trade but was dismissed from his apprenticeship after impregnating two girls.

He then returned to his village, where he impregnated eight more girls.

Obinabo has called on the public for advice on how to address the issue, questioning whether the boy’s behaviour is a spiritual matter.

She said, “I want advice from the public because this one is beyond my capacity.

“This boy was sent to learn a trade at the age of 18 and three months of apprenticeship, and he impregnated his master’s daughter and his salesgirl. He was sent packing. Two months after that, he impregnated eight other girls in the village. This matter is beyond me, the reason I want the public to help me come up with a solution. Is it spiritual?”

The boy’s mother reportedly sought help from Obinabo, expressing worry about the situation.

According to her, the mother said, “‘Anytime I see a girl coming towards our house nowadays, my heart would jump, please, I need help.’”

The boy allegedly told Obinabo that he convinces the girls by telling them he loves them and plans to marry them once he acquires wealth.

“I asked the boy what he uses in luring the girls to bed, but he told me he always tells them that he loves them and would like to marry them any time he acquires wealth.

“This problem is beyond me because of the boy’s age and the number of pregnant girls involved; that’s why I need help to solve it”, she added.

In another development in Anambra, the Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Shedrack Azubuike, has ordered the immediate desilting of all drainages in the area to mitigate the impact of impending flooding, Diaspora Digital Media has gathered.
According to the 2025 Annual Flood Outlook unveiled in Abuja last month, Anambra is one of the states expected to witness massive flooding this year.To prepare for the expected flood, Azubuike has commenced a massive sensitization campaign among residents of Orumba South Local Government Area, emphasizing the need to clear all water canals and drainages.

“The clearing and desilting of drainage channels across all communities in the local government has commenced,” Azubuike said. “The idea is to prevent erosion and also curtail the impact of flooding as we approach the peak of the rainy season. The desilting exercise would also reduce the spread of diseases and enhance the overall aesthetics of the area.”

The exercise aims to ensure the free flow of stormwater and is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s “Operation Clean, Green, and Sustainable Anambra” initiative.

Azubuike emphasized that clearing the drains will help prevent avoidable flooding that could result in loss of lives and property, with the goal of making Orumba South a model of cleanliness in Anambra State.
