Delta Police command records major successes in crime fighting

Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, shared exciting progress in their fight against crime during a recent briefing.

He explained how his team has been actively working with dedication to improve safety across the state recently.

Abaniwonda pointed out that their success comes from strategic planning, quick response, and effective teamwork in tackling crime hotspots.

Moreover, he underlined that the police remain fully committed to creating a peaceful environment. This approach involves gathering intelligence, conducting precise operations, and focusing on dismantling criminal hideouts systematically. The Commissioner reassured the public that their efforts are ongoing to ensure lasting security and trust within the community.

Furthermore, Abaniwonda praised his officers’ bravery and dedication, which have been instrumental in these recent victories. He expressed confidence that, with continued collaboration and vigilance, the police can sustain these positive trends. Overall, his message emphasized the police’s unwavering resolve to protect lives and property and strengthen the safety of every resident.

Arrest of Suspected Kidnappers and Recovery of Ransom Money

On May 12, 2025, at approximately 9:30 AM, operatives from the Dragon Patrol Team intercepted a gold-colored Toyota Sienna bus during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Kwale/Ozoro express road.

Upon inspection, a sum of Three Million One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦3,100,000) was recovered from four male suspects: Abubakar Alwalu (25), Usman Husseini (25), Adamu Mohammed (30), and Anwalu Umaru (23).

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were part of a five-member gang responsible for kidnapping a woman in Ughelli and holding her captive for four days. The suspects collected a ransom of Four Million Naira (₦4,000,000) before their arrest. The victim has since identified the suspects, and further investigations are ongoing.

Recovery of Weapons and Arrest of Notorious Kidnappers

In another significant breakthrough on May 10, 2025, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, apprehended Abdullahi Ibrahim (22), a suspected gang leader, in Ore town, Ondo State. His arrest led to the capture of another gang member, Adamu Usman (24), in the same area. The suspects subsequently took operatives to a forest along the Ore-Lagos expressway, where an AK-47 rifle with fourteen rounds of live ammunition and a locally made long gun with six live cartridges were recovered. Both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.

Foiled Kidnapping Incident and Recovery of Arms

On May 12, 2025, at approximately 10:30 AM, operatives from the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad responded swiftly to intelligence regarding a kidnapping in Itego community, Ibusa. A man had been abducted, and an undisclosed ransom was paid. Following a hot pursuit at Koka Junction, Asaba, one suspect, Lawal Tasiu (26), was arrested. A sum of Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (₦900,000) was recovered from him. During interrogation, Tasiu confessed to being part of a syndicate terrorizing Ibusa and its environs. Further investigations led operatives to the gang’s hideout in Issele-Azagba, where an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, two AK-47 magazines, and eighty-seven rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

Rescue of Stolen Infant and Arrest of Child Trafficking Suspect

In a separate operation on April 7, 2025, officers from Ekpan Police Station acted on a complaint from a man whose wife had been drugged during a business trip.

The suspect, identified as Mrs. Joy Temitope Oyetimi (49), allegedly stole the couple’s two-month-old baby after drugging the mother with juice.

Following an intelligence-led investigation, Mrs. Oyetimi was apprehended.

During interrogation, she admitted to the crime.

The baby, now five months old, was rescued and safely reunited with his parents.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

CP Abaniwonda emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Delta State Police Command to safeguard lives and properties.

He expressed gratitude to the public for their ongoing cooperation, which plays a vital role in community safety.
