Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi

Peter Obi, former presidential candidate has issued a strong warning about the growing corruption in Nigeria.

In a report by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), Obi stated that corruption is destroying hard work, entrepreneurship, and the moral foundation of the nation.

He lamented that honest Nigerians struggle daily, while those with no visible jobs or businesses live in luxury.

“People with no daytime jobs live like stars,” Obi said during his address, describing the situation as a national crisis.

He emphasized that corruption has devalued productivity and made dishonest wealth more desirable than legitimate enterprise.

“All we need to do is the right thing,” Obi said, stressing the urgent need for reform.

He pointed out that corruption has created a society where criminals are celebrated and hardworking citizens are disregarded.

Obi suggested that Nigeria adopt tougher anti-corruption laws, drawing inspiration from China’s strict measures.

He noted that in China, stealing public funds can attract life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

“Maybe what the Chinese are doing is what we need, severe consequences for corrupt practices,” he remarked.

He argued that strong penalties could deter corruption and help restore faith in honest labor and entrepreneurship.

Without bold action, he warned, Nigeria will continue to reward dishonesty and punish integrity.

Obi also criticized Nigerian leaders for selectively comparing the country to developed nations.

“They only compare Nigeria to others when it suits them,” he said.

“They never want to follow what those countries did when they were still growing.”

He explained that China’s  rapid development was possible because of decisive leadership and zero tolerance for corruption.

“If China hadn’t taken bold steps, they wouldn’t be where they are today,” he added.

Obi urged Nigerians to reclaim their country from corrupt elites and demand better governance.

He specifically pointed to President Bola Tinubu and others in power as examples of wealth without enterprise.

“These people in power are corrupt. They have wealth with no clear source of income,” he declared.

He concluded by urging citizens to demand accountability and transparency from their leaders.

“Nigerians must rise and reclaim their future,” Obi said, calling for collective resistance against the culture of corruption.
