Senator Osita Ngwu has raised alarm over the Southeast’s exclusion from the 2025 national budget.

He made this known during a Senate plenary session, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reveals.

Ngwu revealed that one geopolitical zone received N66 billion, while the entire Southeast was allocated nothing.

He condemned the disparity, calling it a clear case of marginalization against the Southeast region.

According to him, such unequal allocation could worsen feelings of exclusion and threaten national unity.

The senator cited the Ivo Dam project in Ebonyi State as a symbol of government neglect.

He stated the dam was last funded 22 years ago with a N5 billion investment.

Ngwu added that for the past 12 years, the project has been completely abandoned by the federal government.

He expressed frustration that his multiple efforts to revive the project have yielded no response.

“I have written three letters to the Ministry of Water Resources,” he said during the plenary.

“We have done everything possible to see if they can bring up Ivo Dam,” Ngwu added.

He stressed that the dam is not only historic but crucial to agriculture and water supply in the region.

Despite its strategic importance, he said the government continues to ignore calls to complete the project.

“A zone is allocated N66 billion, and the Southeast gets zero,” Ngwu exclaimed during the session.

“What kind of omission is that, Mr. President?” he asked, directing his question to the Senate President.

Ngwu’s remarks have sparked conversations on regional balance in national resource distribution.

His concerns have resonated with Southeast residents who feel sidelined in federal allocations.

Critics argue that continued exclusion of the Southeast deepens existing mistrust in the central government.

He urged a reevaluation of national priorities to ensure true federal character in development planning.

His position reflects broader regional demands for fairness and inclusion in national development agendas.

Many believe budget allocations must reflect Nigeria’s diversity and promote equal opportunities for all regions.

Observers say such neglect of strategic projects like Ivo Dam stalls economic and social growth.

Political analysts note that Southeast’s marginalization in annual budgets has become a persistent issue.

Ngwu’s passionate appeal is expected to influence ongoing discussions on the 2025 federal budget.

As budget deliberations continue, many await the government’s response to these concerns.

There is growing pressure on the federal government to correct the imbalance in resource distribution.

Stakeholders hope this marks the beginning of a more equitable approach to national planning.

Ngwu’s intervention may set the tone for future debates on regional equity and justice.

The Southeast demands recognition, not just in words but in meaningful developmental investment.
