Ekiti FC crowned kings of football in Kwara South

Ekiti FC stormed to glory at the second edition of the Kwara South Football Fiesta on Sunday, delivering a dazzling display of football finesse to claim the crown as champions of the region.

The fiesta, held at the electric Zeems Sports Arena in Offa, saw hundreds of young fans and dignitaries gather to celebrate not just football, but unity, culture, and the resilient spirit of the Kwara South people.

And it was Ekiti FC who stole the show

The tournament kicked off with a tense clash between reigning champions Ibolo FC and Igbomina FC. Ibolo managed to hold onto their title defence hopes with a narrow 2-1 win in a tightly-fought opener, setting the stage for a showdown of regional pride.

But when Ekiti FC entered the pitch for their first match, the script was rewritten.

Taking on a buoyant Ibolo side, Ekiti FC delivered a masterclass in attack and defence. With pace, precision and passion, they overwhelmed the champions 3-1 — sending a clear warning that a new force had arrived.

The final match against Igbomina FC was the icing on the cake. A calm, clinical 2-0 win confirmed Ekiti FC’s dominance and sealed their status as undisputed champions of the 2025 edition.

Fiesta of Football and Fraternity

Beyond the goals and glory, the tournament was a celebration of heritage and harmony. It drew a distinguished crowd, including Mr Tony Oyeyiola, Lead People Advisor (Middle East & Africa) at the British Council; Mr Suraj Ojewale (Jarus), CEO of Jarus Homes and Investment Ltd; Mr Musbau Olaniyi, Babajiroro of Offa; and Barr. Joseph Adewumi, Principal Partner at De’ Jadeville Legal Practitioners.

Also in attendance were Mr Hammed Olawale Alabi, CEO of Hadji Mart Gram, and Barr. Titilope Anifowoshe, Head of Programs in the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Citizenship Leadership — a strong endorsement of the event’s growing influence.

Speaking after the tournament, convener Adetola A. Kehinde hailed the players for their sportsmanship and commitment to unity.
