Nigerian music icon Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has voiced his desire for better governance in Nigeria and across Africa.

The award-winning Afrobeats star made the remark at the premiere of his documentary, Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, held at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Friday.

Speaking at the event, Wizkid emphasized the urgent need for African nations to improve their leadership structures, citing governance as a key area for transformation.

The artist’s statement was reported by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), which continues to spotlight African voices pushing for change both at home and abroad.

Wizkid noted that his journey from humble beginnings to global stardom mirrors the experience of many African creatives.

He called on fellow African artists to share their stories, saying it is essential for the world to hear authentic narratives from the continent.

“I hope that every artist from Africa gets to tell their story like this,” he said.

“Because I’m not the only one from that hustle; we all came from there.”

He highlighted that the creative industry, spanning music, film, and sports, holds massive potential to reshape Africa’s global image.

“I always wish for more success for the whole culture,” he stated.

“From music to film to sports. And I wish for better government.”

Wizkid described himself as an inherently optimistic person, maintaining hope for Africa’s future despite persistent leadership failures.

“I’m just a very positive human being regardless of anything,” he added.

“I wish the best for everyone making amazing music and amazing art from Africa.”

Wizkid’s influence extends beyond music, as he continues to use his voice to address social and political issues affecting the continent.

Critics and fans alike have praised the singer for using the spotlight to push for meaningful change in Africa.

As one of the most successful African musicians globally, Wizkid’s statements carry significant weight among the youth and policy influencers.

His latest advocacy aligns with a broader wave of Nigerian and African entertainers stepping into social activism.
