PDP labels Tinubu’s two-year tenure as the worst in Nigeria’s history
DDM News

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has issued a scathing critique of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), branding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as the worst period in Nigeria’s modern history.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that this damning assessment came during a press briefing held in Kaduna by the PDP State Chairman, Hon. Edward Percy Masha, who outlined a catalogue of grievances against both federal and state APC-led governments.
Masha alleged that Nigerians are enduring unparalleled economic and security hardship under the current regime.
He noted that despite massive financial inflows following the removal of the fuel subsidy, the average citizen’s quality of life has plummeted.
The PDP chairman described the fuel subsidy removal as a cruel economic blow, particularly to already vulnerable states such as Kaduna.
“In Kaduna State, where insecurity, hunger, unemployment and poverty were already severe, the removal of fuel subsidy was like a death sentence,” Masha lamented.
He maintained that the APC administration has failed across the board and that the PDP would no longer allow the people’s mandate to be subverted.
Masha said the party is preparing for a political showdown in 2027, declaring that the people will resist any attempt to impose a one-party state.
“In 2027, it will be the people versus the APC,” he warned.
He vowed that future electoral victories will be safeguarded by the people and not hijacked by the ruling elite.
The PDP leader also criticised President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, asserting that it has only increased hardship for Nigerians.
He argued that the President’s fuel subsidy pronouncement on inauguration day was effectively a “declaration of war” against the masses.
According to Masha, the real impact of the administration’s policies is reflected not in government propaganda but in credible data and widespread public suffering.
He referenced a 2025 security report by the Grimm Institute to support his claims.
The report, he said, revealed that between July 2023 and June 2024, Nigeria recorded 1,130 kidnapping incidents leading to 7,568 abductions.
Of particular concern, he said, is that Kaduna, Zamfara, and Katsina States topped the charts for violent crimes, kidnappings, and civilian deaths.
“Kaduna alone witnessed 113 kidnapping incidents and 1,113 victims,” he stated.
He added that these three states saw 1,056 civilian deaths linked to kidnappings within one year.
The PDP chairman rejected the Kaduna State governor’s claim of improved security, saying the situation on the ground tells a different story.
He listed several local government areas including Kajuru, Kauru, Kaura, Birnin Gwari, and Chikun as hotspots where kidnappings and bandit attacks remain prevalent.
Masha accused the Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security of turning into a channel for embezzling public funds.
He claimed the ministry had abandoned serious security reforms in favour of spending public resources on negotiations with criminals.
“Instead of implementing technology-based intelligence systems, the government has been pampering terrorists with public funds under the guise of negotiations,” Masha said.
He emphasized that while the masses endure trauma and violence, the state government appears more interested in appeasing criminals than protecting citizens.
He urged the people of Kaduna to remain vigilant and politically conscious in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
He assured that the PDP will present a strong, people-oriented alternative to the APC’s rule, promising that the mistakes of the past will not be repeated.
Masha reiterated the PDP’s readiness to mobilise and defend democratic values in the face of what he called an emerging autocratic style of governance.
He said the APC’s apparent push for a one-party state will fail, and that the people will reclaim their dignity through the ballot box.
The PDP’s statement underscores the growing political tension as the country approaches another election cycle amid continued economic hardship and deteriorating security.
Many observers believe the 2027 elections could become a critical referendum on the Tinubu administration’s performance and legitimacy.
As citizens continue to grapple with inflation, widespread poverty, and an unrelenting wave of insecurity, opposition voices like that of Masha are expected to grow louder.
Political analysts note that if the APC fails to address these urgent concerns, the PDP may find itself resonating more with an increasingly frustrated electorate.
For now, the APC is yet to respond officially to the PDP chairman’s statements.
However, political watchers predict that this exchange marks the beginning of what may be a long, bitter, and highly contested road to 2027.
