In a fresh offensive against terrorism, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) launched a precision airstrike on June 5, 2025, targeting a terrorist convoy in Borno State.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the military operation, carried out under Operation Hadin Kai, took place in Buratai, a location in the northern part of the troubled state.

According to a statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information at the Air Force Headquarters, the strike was carried out after credible intelligence revealed insurgents were attempting to escape with four gun trucks.

The intelligence report indicated that the terrorists were fleeing the area when NAF air assets swiftly engaged their convoy with precise strikes.

As a result of the engagement, two gun trucks loaded with supplies were completely destroyed.

The airstrike also led to the neutralisation of several fighters involved in the attempted escape.

Ejodame confirmed that the airstrike was executed in the early hours of Thursday with what he described as “devastating accuracy.”

He emphasised that the operation was successful due to timely information received from local sources.

The Air Force spokesman urged members of the public to continue supplying useful intelligence that could aid security operations across the country.

He added that further updates on the operation will be made available as more details emerge.

The strike is part of ongoing efforts by the military to sustain pressure on terrorist groups that have held parts of the North-East region under siege for over a decade.

Buratai, the scene of the latest strike, is a community that has witnessed multiple insurgent attacks since the beginning of the Boko Haram crisis.

It also holds symbolic significance as the hometown of a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd).

The terrorists were reportedly moving in a coordinated manner, possibly to regroup or resupply, when the NAF strike disrupted their plans.

Military analysts say the destruction of the gun trucks, which often serve as mobile platforms for heavy weapons, is a major setback to the operational capacity of the insurgents.

This latest airstrike follows a series of aerial operations conducted by the Air Force as part of intensified efforts to cripple the logistics and movement of terror cells in the region.

Residents of the North-East have continued to live under the shadow of fear due to persistent attacks, kidnappings, and ambushes carried out by insurgents.

NAF’s renewed air campaigns are being interpreted as part of the military’s strategy to reclaim dominance in contested areas and restore civil authority.

Under Operation Hadin Kai, both ground and air components of the Nigerian military are working jointly to eliminate terror threats in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states.

Despite the success of recent air raids, security experts stress the need for sustained operations and improved coordination between intelligence agencies and local communities.

The military has consistently called for the support of civilians in intelligence gathering, which they describe as a key factor in the success of recent missions.

The Nigerian government has also reaffirmed its commitment to ending insurgency and restoring peace in the North-East through a combination of military strength, regional cooperation, and community engagement.

As the country awaits further briefings from the military high command, the latest strike sends a strong message that terrorist elements remain under intense surveillance and face the full weight of Nigeria’s air power when identified.

More updates are expected from military authorities in the coming days as clearance operations continue across key flashpoints in Borno and surrounding states.
