Manchester United have officially confirmed that veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2026.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the announcement was made following confirmation from trusted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who revealed that the deal had been “agreed and sealed.”

Heaton, 38, rejoined Manchester United in 2021, two decades after coming through the club’s academy as a youth player.

Although he has featured only sparingly in the first team since his return, his influence behind the scenes is widely acknowledged.

Romano posted via his social media channels: “Tom Heaton’s new deal at Manchester United has been agreed and sealed. Done deal. It will be valid until June 2026.”

United’s decision to renew Heaton’s contract highlights his significance as a senior figure in the dressing room, particularly as a mentor to emerging goalkeepers such as Altay Bayındır and Radek Vitek.

Heaton’s professionalism and experience have proven valuable at Carrington, where he is seen as a calming and reliable presence during training and match-day preparations.

The club’s commitment to retaining Heaton comes amid uncertainty over the future of Andre Onana, who is reportedly attracting interest and could exit Old Trafford in the coming weeks.

Should Onana depart, Manchester United are believed to be eyeing Aston Villa’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as a potential replacement.

Sources indicate that Martinez may be open to the move, though he remains a high-demand target with other top clubs also monitoring his situation.

United’s strategic approach to squad planning includes maintaining a balance between experience and youth—an aspect clearly represented in their decision to retain Heaton.

Meanwhile, newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly focused on reinforcing United’s attacking department ahead of the 2025–26 season.

The club recently completed the €74.2 million signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha and are now pursuing Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo as another offensive option.

The Cameroonian international has emerged as a serious target for United, who are keen to add speed and creativity to their front line.

Additionally, reports suggest United could lose one of their top young prospects, described as an “outstanding talent,” though any transfer would likely be to another Premier League club.

As the summer transfer window unfolds, Manchester United are aiming to build a more cohesive and competitive squad, with the retention of Tom Heaton seen as part of a broader tactical vision.

Despite his limited minutes on the pitch, Heaton’s presence is viewed as a stabilizing force during a period of transition for the club.

United’s technical team values his contributions beyond goalkeeping duties, particularly as a mentor and role model for younger players navigating the pressures of elite football.

His extension until 2026 signals a strong commitment to maintaining squad harmony and leadership depth as United prepare for what promises to be a pivotal season both domestically and in Europe.

Fans can expect further developments in the coming weeks as the club reshapes its squad, with incoming transfers and potential high-profile exits still on the cards.

As always, DDM will continue to monitor Manchester United’s summer activities and provide timely updates on all the major stories shaping the Red Devils’ future.
