Israel and Iran accept ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was now in place and asked both sides not to violate it, raising hopes of an end to the 12-day.

Also, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had agreed to Trump’s ceasefire proposal, declaring that the Jewish nation had achieved its goal of removing Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile threat, but warned that it would respond forcefully to any violations, his office said in a statement.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said there’s no agreement on a ceasefire with Israel, but that Tehran will halt attacks if Israel stops its “illegal aggression” by 4am local time (00:30 GMT).

Iran also fired a salvo of missiles at a military base in Qatar that houses American troops on Monday evening, in retaliation for the US’s attacks on its nuclear sites a day earlier.

Iran said that more than 400 people, including 13 children, have been killed and at least 3,056 others wounded since Israel launched its attack on June 13.

In Israel, at least 24 people have been killed in Iranian strikes.

While writing on Truth Social earlier, Trump declared: “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!”

Though, Trump’s announcement came after Iran had launched a fresh wave of missiles, killing four people, according to Israel’s ambulance service, and as Iranian authorities reported nine people killed in an attack in northern Iran on Tuesday morning.

When Trump announced on Monday what he called a complete ceasefire to end the war, he appeared to suggest that Israel and Iran would have time to complete missions that were underway, at which point the ceasefire would begin in a staged process.
