(DDM) – U.S. President Donald Trump’s Wednesday news conference at the NATO summit in the Netherlands has come under intense scrutiny for a string of false and misleading claims.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports conducted fact-check of Trump’s statements, revealing inaccuracies in his remarks on the Ukraine war, inflation in the U.S., military strikes on Iran, and the defeat of the Islamic State (ISIS).

Speaking to journalists at the summit, Trump insisted he had only been “sarcastic” when he previously claimed he could end Russia’s war on Ukraine within 24 hours of becoming president.

However, DDM reviewed over 50 public statements Trump made during his campaign and found that he had consistently made the promise in a serious tone.

There was no indication of sarcasm in any of those instances, as he repeatedly vowed to bring the war to a halt almost immediately upon resuming office.

Trump also renewed his criticism of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, claiming the U.S. has “no inflation” and blaming Powell for not cutting interest rates.

This assertion was also inaccurate.

According to U.S. economic data, the inflation rate in May stood at 2.4% on a year-over-year basis, up slightly from 2.3% in April.

Although the rate has declined significantly from the highs seen in 2022, it is incorrect to suggest that inflation has been eliminated.

On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices rose by 0.1% in May and 0.2% in April, disproving Trump’s claim of a zero-inflation environment.

Trump also asserted that his administration “beat ISIS in a matter of weeks,” claiming he achieved in a short time what military officials had predicted would take years.

But DDM found this to be a distortion of the facts.

While Trump’s administration oversaw intensified military operations against ISIS, the complete liberation of the so-called caliphate was not achieved until 2019, more than two years after he assumed office in January 2017.

The battle to dismantle ISIS-controlled territory was a prolonged campaign involving coalition forces and spanned multiple years, starting during Barack Obama’s presidency and continuing into Trump’s.

Trump also declared at the summit that recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities had “obliterated” the program.

DDM, citing early intelligence assessments, reported that the strikes may have only temporarily delayed Iran’s nuclear development.

According to U.S. sources, while some infrastructure was destroyed, the core components of Iran’s nuclear program remained intact, and the setback could last only a few months.

These assessments are ongoing, and future intelligence reports may present a more definitive picture.

Nonetheless, Trump’s statement went far beyond what current evidence supports.

His exaggerated declarations have drawn criticism from analysts who warn that such misinformation could mislead both American voters and international partners.

With Trump seeking another term in office, his comments at international platforms such as NATO summits carry significant weight, and misstatements, critics say, could undermine public understanding of key global issues.

Political observers note that Trump’s style of bold and unverified claims has remained consistent, but the context of a tense international summit has amplified the global repercussions of such inaccuracies.

Analysts also warn that by distorting facts on sensitive subjects like Ukraine’s war, nuclear threats, and inflation, Trump risks undermining confidence in U.S. policy and complicating diplomatic efforts.

As the NATO summit continues, international attention remains fixed not only on policy discussions but also on the impact of Trump’s words.

Many allies remain cautious, remembering how previous Trump-led rhetoric often sparked diplomatic tensions, even among traditional U.S. partners.

The DDM fact-check serves as a reminder of the importance of verification in the era of real-time political speech,  especially when the stakes involve war, economic policy, and global security.
