Iran has reopened its eastern airport in Mashhad to international air traffic following a nearly two-week closure.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the airport, Shahid Hashemi Nejad International, resumed operations on Thursday.

The airport had been closed for 13 days due to heightened tensions with Israel.

Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency confirmed the resumption of international flights at the Mashhad facility.

However, flights to and from other parts of the country remain suspended.

All airports in the north, south, and west of Iran are still affected by the shutdown.

This includes Mehrabad and Imam Khomeini international airports located in the capital, Tehran.

The Iranian government has not provided a timeline for the full resumption of air travel.

Thousands of Iranian citizens remain stranded abroad due to the ongoing flight suspensions.

Last week, Iranian officials confirmed that more than 12,500 Iranian pilgrims were stuck in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

These pilgrims had traveled for religious purposes and are now awaiting safe return arrangements.

The closure of Iran’s airspace came amid escalating conflict between Iran and Israel.

Security concerns prompted the government to halt both domestic and international flights across multiple regions.

Mashhad, located in eastern Iran, is one of the country’s key religious and commercial hubs.

The partial reopening marks a cautious step toward restoring normal travel activity in the region.

Authorities have not clarified whether other airports will follow suit in the coming days.

Flight suspension continues to disrupt daily life and religious obligations for many Iranians.

The Iranian Civil Aviation Organization has yet to release a full schedule for when suspended routes may resume.
