KW-IRS concludes preliminary rounds of 2025 virtual tax club quiz, announces semi-finalists

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, has successfully concluded the preliminary rounds of the 2025 edition of its annual Tax Club Quiz Competition.

 

Held between June 23 and June 27, the preliminary stages were conducted virtually, with students across the state participating in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) from their respective schools.

 

A total of 99 schools registered for the competition, with 88 eventually taking part in the online quiz.

 

Following two keenly contested rounds, 12 schools emerged as semi-finalists—four each from the three senatorial districts in the state.

 

From Kwara South, the qualifying schools are Osi Central Secondary School, Osi; Ansar Ud Deen College, Offa; Government Secondary School, Share; and Ansarul Islam Grammar School, Ijomu Oro.

 

Kwara Central will be represented by Deeper Life High School, Ilorin; Saint Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin; Ebenezer High School, Ilorin; and Roemichs International School, Ilorin.

 

Kwara North’s semi-finalists include Shepherd School, Lafiagi; Government Secondary School, Ilesha Baruba; Government Secondary School, Lafiagi; and Unique College, Kaiama.

 

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Shade Omoniyi, the Convener of the KW-IRS Tax Club Advocacy Committee (TACAC), Funmilola Oguntunbi, applauded the smooth execution of the virtual rounds.

 

She noted that the digital format has enhanced inclusivity and broadened access to the competition.

 

“Our transition to a virtual model has laid the foundation for the successful conduct of this year’s preliminary rounds. It has made participation easier and more inclusive,” she said.

Officials from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development—including Mrs. Roseline Ayansola, Mrs. Alaaya Idayat Olawale, and Mrs.

 

Felicia Bamidele—who were part of the backend monitoring team, praised the students for embracing the challenge and congratulated the top twelve schools for their outstanding performance.

 

The semi-final stage is scheduled to take place virtually on October 6, 2025, while the grand finale will hold physically in Ilorin on November 6, 2025.

 

The winning schools will vie for a grand prize of ₦2.5 million.
