He served twice as Governor of Kano State, became a senator, and in the 2023 elections, propelled the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to national prominence as a credible third force.

Yet today, fresh political speculation surrounds him: could he be planning to rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)?

For the APC, the Kwankwasiyya Movement is a formidable political platform in Kano and beyond.

He said, “President Tinubu personally reached out to me on multiple occasions, urging me to return to the APC fold.

He called me directly and made several overtures, both in private and through mutual contacts, in a bid to lure me back to a party that I once helped build but ultimately had to leave.”

Kwankwaso added that while he was promised that all his conditions would be met, he made it clear he would rather quit politics than rejoin the APC.

Politics, like war, follows the law of strategic necessity.

And 2027 is not just another election year, it is a pivotal point in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Kwankwaso will not merely be another defector; he represents a political asset too significant to ignore.

With 2027 drawing closer, he now stands at the center of Nigeria’s political chessboard.

Rumors suggest the APC is considering offering him the vice-presidential ticket, a strategic power-sharing move aimed at securing his northern base and leveraging his political machinery.

The offer is tempting: national visibility, institutional support, and a clear path to the presidency by 2031.

Unlike many of his contemporaries, Kwankwaso leads a genuine ideological movement.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has demonstrated remarkable staying power and electoral influence, especially in Kano and several northern states.

His political capital is rooted not in office or title, but in the unwavering loyalty of his red-capped followers across Northern Nigeria.

In 2023, with minimal structure and limited resources, the NNPP won Kano decisively and triggered national conversations about third-force politics.

This success was not due to strong party infrastructure, it was a result of personal influence.

That is the APC’s current deficit: it has structure, but it lacks influence.

Should Kwankwaso accept the overture, the immediate effect would be seismic.

The APC’s northern base would be revitalized.

Northern voters might find renewed confidence, and Kano, an electoral juggernaut,vcould be securely in the ruling party’s grip.

Other states like Jigawa, Katsina, and Kaduna could also tilt in the APC’s favor.
