Senator’s aide resigns over N20,000 salary

Oluwatunbosun Awe, an aide to Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, has resigned from his position.

Awe cited dissatisfaction with a monthly salary of N20,000, which he described as no longer viable in Nigeria’s current economic climate.

He claimed that his salary remained the same despite multiple requests for an adjustment, even after serving under Senator Ipinsagba in different capacities.

Awe, who served as the ward liaison officer for Isowopo Ward 2 in Akoko North East Local Government, made his resignation public through a letter released on Wednesday.

“This is in response to the N20,000 monthly salary paid to me, which is out of touch with present economic realities and a far cry from the new national minimum wage,” Awe stated in the letter.

Meanwhile, Bankole Akerele, a loyalist of Senator Ipinsagba, has expressed disapproval over Awe’s decision, questioning his motives and suggesting that the resignation is about divided loyalty rather than salary.

“Awe should have shown appreciation instead of causing embarrassment. His resignation is more about divided loyalty than salary,” Akerele said.
