Israel Launches Airstrikes on Houthi Targets Across Yemeni Ports and Power Facility
DDM News

Israel has launched a series of airstrikes targeting Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, including key ports and a power station, in response to ongoing hostilities.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the strikes were confirmed by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Sunday, July 6, 2025. He described the operation as a direct response to repeated “terrorist attacks” carried out by the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels against Israeli interests and international shipping routes in the Red Sea.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the targeted sites included the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Issa, and Salif, along with the Ras al-Khatib power station. The IDF claimed these facilities were being used for military operations against Israeli targets and commercial vessels navigating the Red Sea corridor.
Before launching the strikes, the IDF issued an urgent evacuation warning, advising civilians and maritime personnel near the designated areas to leave immediately.“For your safety, we urge all those present in the specified areas, as well as ships anchored nearby, to evacuate immediately. Remaining in the specified areas puts you in danger,” said an IDF spokesperson.
One of the primary targets was the Galaxy Leader, a vessel previously hijacked by the Houthis. Israeli officials stated that the ship had been repurposed for military use and therefore posed a legitimate threat.
Earlier in the day, reports emerged of a commercial vessel being attacked in the Red Sea, further highlighting the escalating maritime threats. The Magic Seas, a Liberian-flagged, Greek-owned bulk carrier, was reportedly struck by sea drones off Yemen’s southwest coast. The impact caused the vessel to catch fire and take on water.
Maritime security firms have linked the attack to Houthi militants, citing similarities to prior drone operations conducted by the group. The ship’s crew reportedly abandoned the vessel following the strike.
This marks the first major incident in the region since mid-April, reigniting fears about the safety of one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, particularly the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and broader Red Sea routes.
Observers warn that the escalation could further destabilize the region, especially amid ongoing tensions involving Iran and its proxy forces across the Middle East.
