BVN: You Won’t Believe What CBN Did to Nigerians Living Abroad

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has approved a $50 processing fee for BVN enrolment for Nigerians living abroad.

CBN announced the fee applies only to the new Non-Resident BVN (NRBVN) system launched for the diaspora.

The bank clarified that BVN enrolment remains free for Nigerians residing within Nigeria.

CBN stated the $50 charge does not cover the BVN itself, but the cost of overseas verification.

The fee includes costs for biometric data capture, remote identity checks, and cross-border technological infrastructure.

CBN said Nigerians abroad can now register for BVN without visiting Nigeria or physical enrolment centers.

Previously, many Nigerians abroad paid up to $200 for the same process through third-party agents.

CBN reduced this amount to $50 to improve access, affordability, and security for Nigerians in the diaspora.

The apex bank called the NRBVN initiative a voluntary and user-friendly solution for overseas Nigerians.

It explained that the new system improves remote access to financial services linked to Nigeria’s banking system.

CBN urged Nigerians abroad to enroll only through approved and authorized NRBVN service providers.

The bank reassured Nigerians that no hidden charges exist in the BVN enrolment system.

The $50 fee only affects Nigerians outside the country using remote registration services.

All Nigerians registering within Nigeria will continue to access BVN enrolment completely free of charge.

CBN said the move supports financial inclusion for over 15 million Nigerians living abroad.

It also helps ensure proper identity verification for global banking and financial transactions.

CBN advised Nigerians to verify all information through official platforms to avoid misinformation.

It warned the public against believing false reports about fees being charged locally.

The apex bank reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and easier access to banking services for all Nigerians.

CBN continues to push for broader enrolment to strengthen identity security across the Nigerian financial system.

It encouraged Nigerians abroad to take advantage of the NRBVN system for a secure and faster experience.
