ADC Alleges Tinubu Administration Is Plotting to Destabilise Opposition Coalition
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised a serious alarm over what it describes as a coordinated and dangerous plot by officials within President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to destabilise the emerging opposition coalition.
In a statement released on Monday, the ADC’s Interim National Publicity Secretary and National Coalition Spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, accused top government officials of secretly summoning former ADC state chairmen and other key figures from the party’s state executive committees in the North East and North West for undisclosed meetings.
According to the statement, these clandestine meetings are not intended to promote national unity or security, but rather to divide and weaken the ADC and its growing role within the wider opposition alliance.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the ADC is in possession of credible intelligence suggesting that these former party officials are being intimidated, coerced, or possibly lured into a fabricated scheme aimed at undermining the party’s credibility and dismantling the newly-formed opposition front.
“This is not politics. This is sabotage,” Abdullahi stated in the strongly worded release.
The ADC claims that the central objective of these federal-level manoeuvres is to disrupt the unity of the party, delegitimise its newly established leadership structure, and derail its rising influence as a credible opposition force.
“The purpose of this surreptitious engagement with ADC State Chairpersons by federal appointees, who should be more focused on the numerous national security challenges facing the country, is nothing short of an orchestrated assault on Nigeria’s multiparty democracy,” the statement continued.
“This is exactly how one-party dictatorships are born, through calculated intimidation and political manipulation.”
The ADC believes that recent developments within the opposition coalition have unsettled the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), especially following the July 1st Coalition Declaration and the July 2nd public unveiling of ADC’s renewed vision and leadership.
According to the party, the Tinubu administration, having allegedly lost the confidence of the Nigerian populace, is now resorting to “old tactics” involving the undermining, intimidation, and infiltration of opposition ranks, rather than addressing the nation’s pressing challenges.
“It is now clear that this government cannot withstand the pressure of a unified and credible opposition movement,” Abdullahi declared.
“Rather than correct its path, the administration is falling back on a well-worn playbook of destabilising opposition parties. But this time, it won’t work.”
He further stated that the coalition represents a new political awakening in Nigeria, one that captures the frustrations and aspirations of the people.
“This coalition is an idea whose time has come,” he said.
“It belongs to every Nigerian who is tired of the lies, the manipulation, and the deepening economic hardship.
It is a platform for everyone who wants to restore vision, decency, and justice to governance.”
The party vowed not to allow “a few desperate men” to drag the country into a one-party state, insisting that it is the patriotic duty of every citizen to resist such a move using every democratic means available.
Abdullahi also called on President Tinubu to urgently intervene and rein in those among his appointees allegedly involved in the anti-coalition plot.
He urged the President to demonstrate his commitment to democracy by halting all internal attempts to sabotage or silence the opposition.
“The President must remember that if the Goodluck Jonathan administration had been as intolerant and subversive of the opposition as this government now appears to be, the APC would never have come to power in 2015, and Bola Tinubu would not be President today,” Abdullahi concluded.
The ADC’s bold allegations have ignited new discussions across Nigeria’s political spectrum, with many closely watching to see how the Tinubu administration will respond to claims of political interference and efforts to suppress democratic opposition.
