Two Former PDP Governorship Candidates Join ADC in Ondo State

Two prominent former PDP governorship candidates in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede and Agboola Ajayi, have crossed to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Their defection signals growing opposition momentum against President Tinubu’s administration ahead of crucial elections.

The political shift includes other heavyweight defectors like ex-Senator Nicholas Tofowomo and former PDP chairman Tola Alabere.

Professor Bode Ayorinde, coordinating the coalition, revealed the movement’s rapid expansion across all 18 local governments in Ondo State.

“We’re gaining strength daily without offering financial inducements,” Ayorinde declared during the ADC’s state chapter inauguration.

He confirmed the high-profile conversions while distributing membership cards to cement grassroots support.

The professor emphasized the coalition’s focus on inclusive politics rather than personal ambition, though he ruled out running for office himself.

Membership has exploded from 25 to over 300, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction with current leadership.

Former PDP spokesman Kennedy Peretei framed the mass defection as a necessary response to Nigeria’s political crisis.

He revealed entire PDP structures in two local governments have already dissolved into the ADC, creating political vacuums.

“Nigeria’s feared one-party system is collapsing before our eyes,” Peretei observed, noting ruling party officials are clearly nervous about the development.

He predicted more seismic shifts would follow the initial wave of conversions.

The coalition plans to exploit visible cracks within the APC, capitalizing on internal rivalries and discontent.

Strategists aim to position the ADC as the credible alternative for voters disillusioned with both major parties.

As Ondo prepares for its next governorship contest, this realignment could dramatically alter the state’s political calculus.

The defections suggest opposition forces are reorganizing more effectively than anticipated, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive election season.

Political analysts suggest the ADC’s growing influence may force both PDP and APC to rethink their strategies.

With established politicians and grassroots networks now mobilizing under one banner, Ondo’s political landscape appears poised for lasting transformation.

The coming months will reveal whether this coalition can sustain its momentum or if established parties will successfully counter the challenge.

Either way, voters now have clearer alternatives as campaign season approaches.
