Kun Khalifat FC’s head coach, Obinna Uzor, has attributed his team’s heavy defeat to Warri Wolves to an early setback that rattled their composure.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the team fell 3-0 to Warri Wolves in their second fixture at the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs, currently ongoing in Asaba, Delta State.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Coach Uzor lamented the psychological impact of conceding an early goal, which he said destabilised the entire squad and handed the momentum to their opponents.

“That early goal completely demoralised us,” Uzor confessed.

“It disrupted our rhythm and gave them confidence. From that point, it was tough to bounce back.”

Warri Wolves capitalised on their early advantage, dominating play and extending their lead as Kun Khalifat struggled to regain structure and composure on the pitch.

The defeat puts Kun Khalifat FC in a tight corner as they now face a must-win encounter against Osun United in their next match to keep their promotion hopes alive.

Victory in that final group game is the only guaranteed route for the Lagos-based side to secure a spot in the prestigious Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Kun Khalifat’s campaign started with high expectations, but the loss to Warri Wolves has now turned the pressure dial up, forcing the team to re-evaluate tactics and focus.

The NNL Super 8 playoffs serve as a crucial promotion pathway to the NPFL, with only top-performing teams from the tournament gaining entry into the country’s elite football division.

Coach Uzor remains optimistic, urging his players and supporters not to lose hope.

“This is football,” he added.

“Sometimes things don’t go your way, but we’ll regroup and give everything in the next match.”

As fans eagerly await the do-or-die clash against Osun United, football analysts believe that tactical discipline and mental resilience will be critical if Kun Khalifat FC hopes to bounce back and make historywith a promotion to the topflight.
