BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Ganduje as Chairman of FAAN Board

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) governing board.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, officially inaugurated the new board on Tuesday, July 8, in Abuja.

Ganduje, who also served as the former Governor of Kano State, was sworn in alongside key board members including FAAN’s Managing Director, Ms. Olubunmi Kuku; Ms. Dorothy Duruaka; Ahmed Ibrahim Suleiman; Engr. Nasiru Muazu; Omozojie Okoboh; Engr. T.P. Vembe; and Bridget Gold, who will serve as board secretary.

This development comes just 11 days after Ganduje resigned as APC national chairman, citing health concerns.

Speaking at the inauguration, Keyamo urged the board to play an active role in shaping the future of Nigeria’s aviation sector.

“As we inaugurate this new board, we carry the weight of expectation to foster an environment where aviation thrives.

The challenges are numerous from infrastructure gaps to global aviation dynamics. But I believe your experience will guide FAAN to fulfill its mission,” he said.

Keyamo charged the board with upholding transparency, governance, and safety as mandated by the FAAN Act.

“You are not figureheads. You are the architects of our aviation future. Your work must reflect the highest standards of accountability and national service,” he added.

In his response, Ganduje pledged his commitment to support the ministry and ensure progress in line with FAAN’s mandate.

“We’ll assist the ministry to move to the next level. We’ll study the FAAN Act to understand our role clearly, to avoid overstepping boundaries while avoiding inaction,” Ganduje said.

He emphasized the board’s focus on improving service delivery in line with global aviation standards.

“Nigeria is a leading country in Africa. We must offer services that reflect international best practices,” he added

FAAN Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, also pledged close collaboration with the new board to ensure the agency operates efficiently and delivers on its mandate.
