Moghalu Storms Anambra to Launch Governorship Campaign ahead of November Election
DDM News

Chief George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for the upcoming Anambra State election, launched his campaign on Friday, July 11, 2025, in Onitsha, drawing a massive crowd of supporters, party members, and national figures.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the rally served not only as a platform to unveil Moghalu’s gubernatorial agenda but also as the stage where former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, formally declared his intention to run for president again in 2027.
Moghalu, accompanied by his running mate Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro, assured the crowd of his commitment to people-centered governance.
He promised to enhance infrastructure, empower communities, and prioritize security, health, and education if elected in the November 8, 2025, governorship election.
“I will not let the people of Anambra down. Our campaign is about development, dignity, and delivering results,” he said.
In a moment that electrified the audience, Peter Obi mounted the podium to restate his loyalty to the Labour Party (LP), amid swirling rumours about his political alignment.
He dismissed speculation of his defection to another party, despite recent talks with other opposition figures, stating clearly: “I remain a committed, card-carrying member of the Labour Party.”
Obi declared his presidential ambition for 2027, emphasizing the need to sustain the movement for good governance and credible leadership in Nigeria.
“The LP/ADC coalition is a strategic arrangement for the upcoming 2027 elections,” he said, clarifying that it does not signal his exit from LP. “Our goal remains the same, to rebuild Nigeria and make it work for everyone,” Obi affirmed.
The rally was attended by notable political figures, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central, members of the National and State Assemblies, and top officials of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reinforcing growing collaboration between progressive political platforms.
Senator Umeh, in his address, praised Moghalu’s record of public service, calling him a “focused, tested, and visionary leader” capable of transforming Anambra.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, urged Nigerians not to lose hope, stating that Obi’s declaration signals a renewed push for a better Nigeria.
“A new Nigeria is possible. And it starts with credible leadership,” he stated.
The campaign flag-off marked a significant moment in both state and national politics, intertwining Moghalu’s Anambra ambitions with Obi’s national vision.
