Nigerian leaders are converging in Daura, Katsina State, today to pay their last respects to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London.

Buhari’s remains arrived in Nigeria early today and will be laid to rest in Daura, following Islamic traditions that require prompt burial after death.

The President is expected to travel to Daura to attend the funeral, although his exact schedule hasn’t been officially announced.

Shettima has been dispatched to London to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria and is expected to arrive with the body in the early hours of today.

Several former Nigerian leaders are also expected to attend the burial, paying tribute to Buhari’s contributions to the country.

Diplomatic sources indicate that several West African heads of state are planning to arrive in Nigeria to pay their respects to the late leader.

The funeral will follow Islamic traditions, which require burial within 24 hours of death.

Buhari will be laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

The Federal Government has declared seven days of mourning, with national flags flying at half-mast across federal institutions .

Leaders and dignitaries are pouring in tributes, reflecting on Buhari’s legacy and impact on Nigeria’s history.

Condolences have been received from across the political spectrum, both within Nigeria and internationally.

The atmosphere in Daura remains sober, with many people gathering to pay their respects and share memories of the late President.

Security around the area has been reinforced, with military gun trucks stationed at key points and armed soldiers patrolling the streets.
