Obidient’ Breaks Silence on Alleged Rift Between Obi and Nenadi

The Obidient Movement Worldwide has firmly denied reports of an alleged rift between Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi and the party’s Acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman.
In a statement on Wednesday, July 16, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the movement, dismissed the claims as baseless and a desperate attempt to create division within the Labour Party.
“The rumour that Peter Obi has betrayed Senator Nenadi Usman is entirely baseless,” Dr. Tanko stated. “It is a false narrative being peddled by opposition elements to distract from the unity and progress within our movement.”
The speculation surfaced following Obi’s appearance at the Labour Party’s campaign flag-off in Anambra State for its gubernatorial candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, over the weekend. Some media reports suggested Obi’s participation signaled a fallout with Usman.
However, Tanko clarified that Obi’s attendance was a show of loyalty to the party’s leadership under Usman, especially following the Supreme Court’s ruling which affirmed her position.
“His Excellency, Peter Obi, remains a committed member of the Labour Party under the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman,” Tanko said. “He supports all LP candidates who have emerged through due process.”
Tanko also noted that both Senator Usman and other stakeholders were fully aware of Obi’s involvement in the campaign and approved it.
He emphasized that Peter Obi is known for integrity and consistency, and his actions reflect those principles.
“Let’s not forget that Mr. Peter Obi is a man of his word. His support for Dr. George Moghalu is in line with his belief in credible leadership,” Tanko added.
He urged party members and the public to ignore the rumours, describing them as politically motivated propaganda aimed at undermining the unity of the Labour Party.
“Our focus remains clear: to build a united Labour Party and a better Nigeria. We will not be distracted by lies,” he said.
The statement concluded with a call to members of the Obidient Movement and Labour Party to remain focused on their collective mission ahead of the 2027 elections.
