Coalition: EX-Ebonyi PDP Chairman Dumps Party For ADC

Former Ebonyi PDP Chairman, Barrister Silas Joseph Onu, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a resignation letter dated July 16, 2025, Onu announced his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He blamed the PDP’s leadership structure, saying the party is no longer democratic. According to him, governors now dominate decisions without regard for grassroots members.

Onu once served as the PDP’s State Publicity Secretary and later as Chairman in Ebonyi State. Despite years of loyalty, he said the party had become unrecognizable.

In his letter addressed to the Obiozara Ward Chairman, Onu wrote, “I am leaving with a patriotic heart. The PDP no longer reflects justice or fair play.”

He stressed that his exit was based on principle, not personal loss. “It is not desperation. It’s a firm decision to work with a better platform,” he added.

The Ebonyi Ex-PDP Chairman also contested in the 2024 Ebonyi South bye-election. Though he lost, many praised his campaign for being policy-driven and transparent.

Onu revealed that he joined the ADC because the party supports inclusive leadership. He urged his supporters to follow him in building a credible political future.

Political analysts see his defection as a blow to the PDP in Ebonyi. Many believe it could influence political dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.

“This is about integrity,” Onu said during a press briefing. “We want a political space where ordinary members matter again.”

His decision reflects wider discontent within Nigeria’s opposition. Other politicians have also left the PDP over issues of control and marginalization.

The defection of the Ebonyi Ex-PDP Chairman highlights growing interest in alternative parties like the ADC. As the 2027 race draws closer, more realignments may follow.
