‘Nonsense and Misinformation’: Obama’s Camp Dismisses Trump’s Treason Claims

Nigerians and the world watched closely as former US President Barack Obama’s spokesman fired back at Donald Trump for accusing him of treason.

The explosive drama unfolded Tuesday, July 22, 2025, after Trump, speaking from the Oval Office, made serious claims tied to the Epstein documents scandal.

Trump shifted focus from his own controversies by going after his predecessor.

“It’s time to go after people,” Trump declared. “President Obama betrayed his country.”

Trump tied Obama, Joe Biden, James Comey, and James Clapper to what he called a “treasonous conspiracy.”

He cited a recent report by his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, claiming top Obama-era officials tried to sabotage his 2016 campaign.

However, the report contradicts U.S. Senate findings.

The bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee earlier confirmed Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help Trump, but found no vote manipulation.

The report was signed by all Republican committee members including current Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Obama’s spokesman, Patrick Rodenbush, didn’t hold back.

“These bizarre allegations are ridiculous,” he said. “Out of respect for the presidency, we usually ignore such nonsense. But this is too outrageous.”

He stressed that the new claims are a distraction.

“Nothing in last week’s report disproves that Russia tried to influence the 2016 election. But they didn’t manipulate any votes.”

Trump also called on the Justice Department to target Comey and Clapper. Both are reportedly under FBI investigation, but no charges have been confirmed.

While Trump pushes the treason narrative, critics including Obama’s camp say it’s just another attempt to change the headlines as the heat around Jeffrey Epstein’s documents grows.

With the 2026 elections approaching, Trump’s latest comments have sparked debate globally.
