2027: APC suffers major blow as Kwankwaso receives Kano defectors

Rabiu Kwankwaso, former NNPP presidential candidate, has received thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
He made the announcement via his official X handle on Friday, July 25, 2025. According to the statement, the large-scale defection occurred on Thursday and marks a turning point ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Yesterday was a momentous occasion, as I received thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP),” Kwankwaso stated.
The former Kano State governor hosted the event at his residence.
He assured the new members of fair treatment, equal opportunities, and full integration into the NNPP structure.
Kwankwaso said the political leadership style in Kano continues to draw wide support across party lines. He encouraged others considering a switch to act without hesitation.
“The distinguished leadership style in Kano and our political philosophy keep attracting more people into our fold. I encourage others to join us without hesitation,” he said.
This mass defection is seen as a major blow to the APC in Kano, a key battleground state. The NNPP’s momentum in the state has grown significantly, particularly with Kwankwaso at the helm.
Political observers believe the move could tilt the balance of power as the 2027 elections approach.
With more defections expected, the APC may face an uphill battle in retaining control of the state.
Kwankwaso’s rising influence in Northern politics and the growing discontent within APC ranks are fueling the NNPP’s expansion in Kano.
