Canada Unveils Program That Prepares Nigerian Nurses for Jobs Before Landing

Nigerian nurses in Canada, or those planning to move, now have access to a new support programme.

The initiative is called Pre-Arrival and Post-Arrival Supports and Services (PASS).

Canadian government funds it through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The CARE Centre for Internationally Educated Nurses manages the programme.

It aims to help foreign-trained nurses understand Canada’s healthcare system. Nigerian nurses especially benefit from the guidance offered.

Who Qualifies for PASS?

To qualify, nurses must have completed a recognised nursing programme.

They also need valid credentials like a diploma, degree, or certificate.

Additionally, they must hold approval from IRCC for permanent residence. Without these, applicants must explore other options.

What Does PASS Offer?

PASS offers 84 hours of online communication training. This training covers Canadian medical terms, documentation, and cultural skills. Conflict resolution is also part of the curriculum.

Moreover, nurses with Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels 5 or 6 can fully benefit.

The programme also connects them with mentors. These mentors are licensed nurses with over three years of experience in Canada.

More Reasons to Join

PASS goes further by offering live and recorded webinars. These webinars explain licensing steps for different provinces. They also explore labour market trends and temporary job options for new arrivals.

Each nurse also receives a personal case manager. This manager offers tailored support and guidance. They help nurses find services, join networks, and settle in faster.

Support continues even after the nurse arrives in Canada. This ensures a smooth transition both professionally and socially.

How to Register for PASS

To enrol, visit pass4nurses.org. Create an account and complete the online form. Choose either pre-arrival or post-arrival support.

Next, upload proof of your nursing education and Canadian immigration approval. This can include your COPR, PR visa, or IRCC invitation.

After submission, a case manager will reach out. They will explain the next steps to begin your nursing journey in Canada.
