A Colorado judge has officially sentenced James Craig to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, following his conviction for the 2023 murder of his wife, Angela Craig.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the sentencing was delivered by Judicial District Judge Shay Whitaker shortly after a jury found Craig guilty of first-degree murder and multiple other charges related to the poisoning death of his wife.

The trial, which drew national attention, revealed that Craig, a dentist, had methodically planned the murder by feeding Angela poisoned protein shakes over a period of time.

Prosecutors argued that Craig used arsenic and later cyanide to slowly kill his wife while maintaining a façade of marital normalcy.

The motive, according to the evidence presented, was to clear the path for a new life with another woman.

Craig had reportedly rekindled a romantic relationship with a former colleague and was allegedly planning a future with her, even as his wife lay dying in a hospital.

Angela Craig had been hospitalized multiple times before her eventual death, with doctors initially baffled by the unexplained and worsening symptoms.

It wasn’t until investigators began piecing together Craig’s internet search history and purchases of toxic substances that the case took shape.

Search terms uncovered during the investigation included “how to poison someone without getting caught,” which prosecutors used to demonstrate premeditation.

During Wednesday’s sentencing, family members delivered emotional impact statements, describing Angela as a devoted mother of six, a woman of deep faith, and a victim of unspeakable betrayal.

One family member described the murder as “a calculated act of cruelty from the person she trusted most.”

Angela’s sister told the court, “James did not just kill Angela, he destroyed an entire family’s future.”

Judge Whitaker called the crime “cold, deliberate, and horrifying,” before issuing the mandatory sentence of life without parole.

She remarked that Craig had abused his professional knowledge and position of trust in the most despicable way.

Craig showed little visible emotion as the sentence was read, standing motionless in his prison uniform.

He will be transferred to a Colorado state penitentiary where he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The case has sparked renewed debate about domestic violence, psychological abuse, and the hidden dangers that can exist even within seemingly stable marriages.

Angela’s murder is part of a broader national pattern of intimate partner violence, where the perpetrator often exploits access and trust to commit lethal acts.

Legal analysts say Craig’s conviction sends a strong message about the use of forensic digital evidence in securing justice in domestic homicide cases.

The Craig family has expressed relief that justice was served but emphasized that no sentence could bring Angela back or undo the trauma.

They have announced plans to launch a foundation in her name to support victims of domestic abuse and raise awareness about the signs of covert violence within marriages.
