Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has issued a stinging rebuke to certain governorship hopefuls he described as lacking the basic academic and moral qualifications to lead the state.

In a video clip aired by Channels Television and widely circulated online, Soludo defended the state’s zoning arrangement and voiced concern over what he termed an “assault on decency” by political actors from Anambra South allegedly planning to break the rotational agreement.

Soludo emphasized that after his tenure ends, the governorship should rightly return to Anambra Central in accordance with the agreed zoning pattern.

According to him, any disruption of this formula threatens political stability and the equitable distribution of power across the state.

The governor did not mince words when criticizing some aspirants, describing them as completely unfit for leadership.

“Some of them don’t even have a school certificate, yet they want to be governor of Anambra,” Soludo said.

He went further, alleging that even among those with certificates, some carry questionable academic credentials.

The governor expressed disgust at what he called a “gathering of political opportunists” masquerading as public servants.

He warned that such characters could not be entrusted with the future of the state.

“Anambra has no place for street urchins,” he added, making it clear that credibility and competence must guide future leadership selections.

Reacting to promises by certain candidates to serve only a single term in office, Soludo dismissed the claim as disingenuous and misleading.

“Anybody who says they’ll do one term needs psychiatric examination,” the former Central Bank Governor stated pointedly.

He argued that such rhetoric is only meant to deceive the electorate and noted that no serious leader would campaign with half-hearted commitments.

Soludo reiterated that Anambra is on a clear path to progress and warned that the people are too politically sophisticated to fall for gimmicks.

He stated emphatically that his administration has laid strong foundations that must not be jeopardized by people he described as “desperate to hijack power by all means.”

This comes amid increasing political tension in Anambra State as preparations for the 2025 gubernatorial race begin to heat up.

The zoning arrangement in the state, although not enshrined in law, has functioned as a gentleman’s agreement designed to ensure fairness across the three senatorial zones, North, Central, and South.

Soludo, who hails from Anambra South, succeeded Willie Obiano from Anambra North, while the region widely considered next in line is Anambra Central.

His comments are likely to stir strong reactions from political actors across the state.

Some observers believe the speech was aimed at discouraging perceived political threats within his zone, while others view it as a necessary stand to uphold democratic equity.

As the campaign season draws nearer, political permutations and grassroots mobilization efforts are already gaining momentum, with aspirants jostling for visibility.

Soludo’s tough stance may become a rallying cry for those defending zoning and a barrier to any faction hoping to alter the political order.

It also reflects his ongoing attempt to reshape Anambra politics by promoting merit-based leadership and institutional continuity.

Soludo’s firm words have sparked intense debate across social media, with many hailing him for speaking truth to power, while critics accuse him of trying to dictate succession.

What remains clear, however, is that Anambra’s 2025 governorship race will be fiercely contested, both on the ground and in ideological terms.
