Attacks on Peter Obi Meant to Hide Tinubu’s Failure — CUPP

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has taken a firm stand against the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of launching a smear campaign against Labour Party leader Peter Obi to divert public attention from the failures of the Tinubu-led government.

Speaking in Abuja on Monday, August 4, CUPP’s National Secretary, Peter Ameh, described APC’s recent attack on Obi as both desperate and misleading.

According to him, the ruling party is more interested in character assassination than solving the country’s worsening economic crisis.

Ameh was reacting to a statement made by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, who claimed that Obi had nothing to offer Nigeria and labeled him a hypocrite.

But CUPP sees these remarks as nothing more than a calculated distraction.

“Contrary to these baseless claims, Peter Obi has consistently demonstrated leadership built on accountability, transparency, and service,” Ameh said.

“His ideas focus on reducing government waste, driving reforms, and lifting Nigerians out of poverty.”

He stressed that Obi’s record as a former Anambra State governor speaks volumes.

Rather than enriching himself, Obi prioritized education, health, and financial discipline qualities Nigeria desperately needs today.

Furthermore, Ameh noted that the APC’s continued attacks show the ruling party fears Obi’s growing popularity.

“Instead of providing solutions to hunger, inflation, and insecurity, APC is busy sponsoring propaganda,” he said.

He added that Nigerians are tired of excuses and blame games.

The daily struggles faced by ordinary citizens, from skyrocketing food prices to rising unemployment, show the government’s failure to deliver on its promises.

“Two years into Tinubu’s administration, there is still no clear economic direction. No progress. No relief for suffering Nigerians. Just more hardship,” he stated.

Ameh also condemned the APC’s early push for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election, calling it an insult to Nigerians still battling today’s harsh realities.

According to him, the desperation behind the Peter Obi smear campaign reveals a party running out of ideas.

While APC focuses on petty political attacks, Obi continues to engage with issues that truly matter.

Ameh said the former governor remains committed to reforms that could rescue Nigeria from its current decline.

In conclusion, CUPP urged Nigerians not to be distracted by smear tactics. “We must hold leaders accountable, not fall for distractions,” Ameh warned.
