Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), has praised Peter Obi for his integrity and unique leadership style.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Rhodes-Vivour made this known during an interview with Pulse Nigeria, where he explained why Obi commands such loyal support across Nigeria.

According to GRV, Obi’s popularity among Nigerians, particularly the youth, is tied to his reputation for honesty, discipline, and a clean public record.

He stated that many Nigerians are tired of corrupt leaders and now yearn for someone who represents genuine change.

During the interview, GRV was asked what makes the current political coalition appealing to ordinary Nigerians.

In response, he challenged the framing of the question, suggesting it was based on outdated assumptions about what citizens expect from leadership.

He said young Nigerians were no longer simply looking for politicians but for moral role models who can be trusted with power.

“There is this idea that we are looking for angels to lead us,” he began.

He explained that this mindset is not just a fantasy, but the driving force behind the Obidient movement.

According to him, the movement is a generational shift built on the desire for moral clarity and responsible governance.

He described Nigerian politics as a pendulum that has swung toward a demand for ultra-clean, trustworthy individuals in leadership.

GRV said citizens have suffered under failed leadership for too long and now believe only righteous individuals can be trusted to manage the nation’s resources.

He emphasized that Peter Obi fit that role perfectly during the 2023 elections.

“Peter Obi has the followership that he has because he is extremely unique,” he said.

He argued that Obi’s track record clearly shows he is not a leader interested in enriching himself.

According to GRV, Obi is not known for greed, flamboyance, or excessive government spending.

“He has shown from his track record that he will save the state’s money,” GRV said.

He added that Obi does not take luxury houses or treat government funds like personal wealth.

“He is not trying to appreciate it,” he added, referring to the tendency of many politicians to misuse state resources for self-enrichment.

GRV noted that Obi’s modesty and frugality distinguish him from the political elite Nigerians have grown to distrust.

He emphasized that Obi’s character gave people a sense of hope and accountability in governance.

He believes the Obidient movement’s strength comes from the credibility and consistency Peter Obi represents.

The Labour Party chieftain encouraged Nigerians to keep demanding higher standards from political leaders, especially in an era where citizens are more aware than ever.

GRV’s comments have since sparked positive reactions online, especially among Obi’s supporters who see his leadership as a model for the future.

The full interview is available on Pulse Nigeria’s platform, with the most relevant segment beginning at the 6:10 minute mark.

With the next electoral cycle approaching, many believe Peter Obi’s influence will continue to shape Nigeria’s political future.
