A member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Kabiru Mai Palace, has renovated 80 cemeteries across Gusau and Tsafe Local Government Areas in Zamfara State as part of his constituency projects.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, the lawmaker said the initiative was part of activities marking his second year in office during his second term as a federal legislator.

Mai Palace stressed the spiritual and cultural importance of maintaining cemeteries.

He described burial grounds as the “final resting place for all,” urging communities to preserve them with dignity and care.

“Today, we embarked on the renovation of 80 cemeteries in Gusau and Tsafe LGAs as part of my second-year anniversary as a second-term member of the House of Representatives,” he said.

“We observed that cemeteries in many communities were in dilapidated condition.

As Muslims, we believe in the importance of preserving our burial sites. These are our final homes, and it is our duty to maintain them properly.”

He added that Islam encourages the upkeep of cemeteries, stating that neglecting them could bring about societal calamities and spiritual setbacks.

Beyond renovation, the lawmaker announced additional measures to maintain the cemeteries.

He pledged to employ guards, pay monthly allowances to cemetery workers, and provide tools for their work.

Mai Palace also used the occasion to distribute tricycles and motorcycles to empower residents in his constituency.

This development has sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising the gesture as culturally thoughtful, while others questioned the prioritization of cemetery projects over basic social amenities.
