Nigeria's Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi

Minister of Works Engineer David Umahi has stated that the South-East region should not expect to produce Nigeria’s president in the 2027 general elections.

He said this in a statement issued on Monday.

Umahi called on the South-East to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, noting the president’s fairness and commitment to the region’s infrastructure development.

Umahi highlighted the administration’s efforts in infrastructure development across the nation, instructing regional directors to document progress on projects.

The former governor of Ebonyi State said President Tinubu is driving national unity through equitable infrastructure distribution.

Umahi advised the Igbo to focus on forming strong political alliances with other regions rather than pursuing the presidency in 2027.

Umahi stressed the need for the South-East to support Tinubu, suggesting the region should aim for up to 90% of votes to cement the relationship.

Umahi cautioned against misinformation and divisive politics, urging the South-East to shun political bitterness.

Umahi insisted that President Tinubu should be allowed to complete his tenure, adding that the South-East will have its turn “one day” but not in 2027.
