The Lagos State Government has warned residents in parts of Lekki, Ikorodu, and Ajegunle to immediately relocate from low-lying areas.

This comes amid fresh fears of flash flooding due to climate change and rising coastal risks.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Commissioner for the Environment Tokunbo Wahab issued a strong advisory.

He urged residents living in flood-prone zones to move to higher grounds before it is too late.

“Those around the Ajilete axis of Lagos that’s Ajegunle must move.

Also, those near the coastline of Ikorodu, including Majidu, need to relocate,” Wahab said.

“Some parts of the Lekki corridor must take action as well, though not all areas are affected.”

However, he reassured citizens that certain locations remain safe. “Epe has always been safe.

Mushin will be safe. Ikeja is safe,” the commissioner confirmed. But he cautioned residents in the Isheri-OPIC axis to stay alert, as the risk of flooding remains high there too.

Wahab emphasized that Lagos, being a coastal city, faces severe exposure to the effects of climate change.

As a result, flash floods are expected to intensify in the coming weeks and months.

In recent years, Lagos has suffered repeated flooding incidents, especially in areas with poor drainage or close to water bodies.

This latest warning signals renewed urgency for vulnerable residents to act quickly.

The state government has also advised citizens to clear drainage channels, avoid dumping waste into waterways, and cooperate with emergency officials in case of evacuation alerts.
