2027: Atiku’s Camp Reveals Process for Choosing ADC Presidential Candidate

Atiku Abubakar’s media team has clarified that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for 2027 will be chosen strictly by party delegates.
This comment comes amid growing speculation over who will lead the emerging opposition coalition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Paul Ibe, the media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, made this statement on Wednesday, August 6, in a post on his verified Facebook page.
He responded to rising interest in the ADC ticket, emphasizing that internal ambition is normal and even beneficial for a functioning democracy.
“There’s nothing wrong in all of them wanting to be president,” Ibe stated. “The delegates of the party will, at the appropriate time, determine who will be the presidential candidate. That is democracy as opposed to Tinubu’s dictatorship at work.”
According to Ibe, the ADC coalition has no internal crisis despite multiple political heavyweights expressing interest in running.
Instead, he said such interest shows political strength and reflects the widespread dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
He noted that the coalition, made up of various political actors including PDP defectors and civil society supporters, is angry over the state of the country.
“The ADC Coalition leaders are angry with the mess that Tinubu has made of Nigeria,” he wrote.
Ibe criticized the soaring cost of living, saying that even a bag of rice is now unaffordable for many Nigerians, including those earning the proposed minimum wage.
“They’re angry at how the material condition of the average citizen has deteriorated… at the skyrocketing prices of food… that even the minimum wage cannot buy a bag of rice,” he said.
He also took aim at the security situation, pointing to widespread violence by terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits.
According to him, Tinubu’s administration has failed to act decisively to protect citizens and ensure economic stability.
“What is wrong,” Ibe concluded, “is when you sign up to be president like Tinubu, and your era is marked by incompetence and cluelessness. That is a waste of opportunity.”
The ADC was recently adopted as the political platform for the growing opposition coalition aiming to challenge the APC in the 2027 general elections.
