Israeli security cabinet meets over Gaza takeover as crisis deepens

(DDM) – Israel’s security cabinet has been in an extended closed-door session for over five hours, deliberating on whether its military should take control of the Gaza Strip.

The high-level meeting, which began late Thursday, follows Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s declaration that Israel intends to assume full military control over the enclave.

In an interview with Fox News before the session, Netanyahu said the aim was to “remove Hamas” from Gaza, then transfer authority to a civilian administration unaffiliated with Hamas or any group advocating Israel’s destruction.

DDM gathered that Netanyahu’s comments have sparked anger among displaced Palestinians, who argue that Gaza has already been reduced to ruins.

“There’s nothing left to occupy,” said Mahmoud al-Qurashli, a Palestinian forced from his home in eastern Gaza.

According to him, most of Gaza’s population has been squeezed into the western part of Gaza City, with large areas now uninhabitable.

Meanwhile, Hamas has condemned Netanyahu’s plan, claiming it would sacrifice the lives of Israeli hostages still in Gaza “to serve his personal interests.”

In Israel, frustration with the government’s handling of the hostage crisis has continued to grow.

Families of some hostages sailed toward Gaza in protest, demanding that the Netanyahu administration prioritize the safe return of their loved ones.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum also released video of demonstrators gathering outside the prime minister’s office in Jerusalem, calling for an end to the war and the release of captives.

From the air, CNN correspondent Matthew Chance described scenes of devastation while flying over Gaza with the Royal Jordanian Air Force during an aid drop.

He reported that once-bustling neighborhoods have now been reduced to piles of rubble.

The deepening humanitarian crisis remains a pressing concern.

The United Nations said 11,877 children under five in Gaza were acutely malnourished in July, the highest monthly figure ever recorded in the territory.

Of these, 2,562 were classified with severe acute malnutrition, while 40 were hospitalized for urgent care.

Aid agencies say they have been able to reach only 3% of the children in need, as humanitarian access remains severely restricted.

The UN warns that without safe, sustained aid delivery, more lives will be lost in the coming weeks.

Netanyahu’s cabinet is expected to continue deliberations into the early hours, with no official decision yet announced.

Would you like me to now merge this update with the malnutrition report into a single DDM feature for stronger impact? That would link the military decision talks directly to the worsening humanitarian toll.
