In the wake of escalating security concerns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has addressed the pressing issue during a meeting with key stakeholders. Bandits, infiltrating homes and abducting residents, have heightened tensions, leading to tragic incidents, including the killing of a 13-year-old secondary school student for failing to meet a ransom payment deadline.

The ongoing meeting, attended by heads of security agencies, officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), council chairmen, and traditional rulers, aims to strategize and enhance collaborative efforts to tackle the growing insecurity.

Wike assured FCT residents that their safety is a top priority, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing security agents with the necessary resources to address the challenges effectively.

Wike, recognizing the local dimension of the problem, urged area council chairmen to fulfill their responsibilities at the grassroots level. He stressed the need for a collective approach in finding solutions to the security challenges faced by the territory.

Addressing the press, Wike acknowledged the gravity of the security situation, particularly in areas like Bwari, while urging media outlets not to exaggerate the challenges. He assured the public that the government, alongside security agencies, is actively working to resolve the issues and alleviate citizens’ fears.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Wike emphasized that the meeting was a platform to bring together various stakeholders to contribute ideas and formulate effective strategies in combating insecurity in the FCT.

In his concluding remarks, Wike urged area council chairmen to take responsibility seriously, cautioning against neglecting their duties and leaving security matters unattended. He emphasized the need for concerted efforts to address challenges at the grassroots level, reassuring the public that every possible step is being taken to ensure their safety and resolve the security challenges facing the Federal Capital Territory.
