A Peep Into Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe, A Warrior Of Justice

Most of the time, Nigerians prefer to celebrate musicians, comedians, skit-makers, and others in the entertainment industry. There is nothing wrong with this, except not extending the same gesture to other fields.
There is no gainsaying that when social need arises, they seek the intervention of the people doing the real job needed to bring about freedom and meaning to our lives. He who wrestles justice from the hands of the rich and powerful for a commoner is a profitable celebrity.
On a good day, comedians, musicians, and their cohorts bring that smile and laughter. Life is not always about fun but the opportunity to navigate through the worst times. In a time of desperate need, in this country of over 200 million people, only a few are counted.
The warriors of justice spend their hard-earned money, invest their time, and risk their lives just to save Nigerians without any reward. But that is the irony of life; those who also deserve to be celebrated are not celebrated, while those who do most things to be financially patronized are celebrated.
My celebrity is Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe a.k.a Mimiy Ikpeazu, a fanatic warrior of justice who jumps into any case involving intimidation of Nigerians or injustice against Nigerians. She barely looks back, and always with great determination, sees to the conclusion of any matter she ventures into. I have often asked, what drives her?
It’s not easy to remember those behind bars when one is surrounded by the goodies of life. It’s even unexplainable to find passion in investing hard-earned money to fight for justice for someone you know nothing about nor have seen.
“Sometimes, after releasing these people, they came back to me for money to start new life. I start a business for them, and over time, they somehow become a burden. If I tell them I have no money at a given time, they continue disturbing me until I fund them,” she said while reacting to the negative attitude of those she saved from unjust detention.
Here, not only about securing justice for Nigerians in time of hopelessness, but starting a promising new life for them. Such beautiful and audacious kindness is rare.
I have not been able to come closer to understand the extent of the sacrifice warriors of justice made in this country until I came in contact with Barrister Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe, a.k.a Mimiy Ikpeazu, a young wife who dedicated her profession to fighting for justice for the common man.
“I have released dozens of people unjustly imprisoned. I don’t consider their reactions or get discouraged because I feel uncomfortable if I don’t do what I am doing for humanity. My joy comes from the smile i am able to bring to the faces of my people. ” she passionately said.
Ikpeazu is a political and legal dynasty in Onitsha. The exploits of the Ikpeazu family can not be underestimated. Mimiy Ikpeazu’s career and role in society resonate with her maiden family’s pedigree.
It’s clearer now that another gem has been made from the family of Ikpeazu.
I was moved to pour my heart after seeing the intricacies of the fight and the cost of fighting for justice in this unjust world of ours- where justice is wrested from the hands of the rich and powerful and given to the common man, who in his wildest dream cannot get justice against his adversary.
Such an instance was an innocent man who is the breadwinner of his new family—who was arrested despite the police and complainant’s awareness that he was innocent- thrown into prison on the condition that he must pay for what he knew nothing about for him to be released. The rich connived with the authorities until Mimiy Ikpeazu came into the matter. I was an observer, and behind the scenes, I followed the matter.
The victim had previously met lawyers who billed him millions of naira to handle the matter. The first lawyer had taken some money and compromised the victim after he met the complainant. The victim had lost hope. His wife and toddler were left with nothing but tears and sorrow.
The reality of the injustice in the system had struck, and all hope was lost. Watching comedians or skit-makers became a thing of sorrow. Listening to music and the endless noise so-called celebrities make came to nought. Standing between his incarceration and freedom is the warrior of justice. Not only was the dream of the victim on the line, those of his wife and the toddler included.
I watched Mimiy Ikpeazu draft out a budget for the case and invest her time and money without demanding a penny from the victim. Such a person should be the right celebrity and not only some persons out there making jest for the good times.
Dozens of victims of injustice have been freed by this lady, and a few know the cost of justice wrested from the hands of the powerful and rich. What I observed in the matter gave me a clue of what it takes to be a better person.
Mimiy Ikpeazu just declared interest in Onitsha North Constituency 1 State House of Assembly race – a budding political career worth giving attention. This beautiful warrior of justice has one determination—to make a change and put smiles on the faces of Nigerians suffering economic injustice, legal injustice, social amenity injustice, and all forms of injustice—starting with her constituents.
When we have people who fight for the masses as leaders in Nigeria, what more do we want? With such people in office, we will definitely have a new beginning for Nigerians and a future where justice in all spheres brings prosperity, progress, and happiness.
But some Nigerians have failed the few that understand the need for the right people to be in positions where they can influence and make their goodness contagious. They instead prefer the moneybags, who give them peanuts today and leave them hungry for the next four or eight years. They prefer liars, who during elections eat with the poor and after elections eat with the rich.
It’s high time we began to celebrate those that put their lives, hard-earned money, time, and profession on the line for Nigerians. It’s high time we supported them to making that giant leap and occupying political offices from where their love and compassion for our survival can reach everyone.
For everything she has given to humanity and the strangers, families, couples, and youths she has saved from the claws of injustice, her political aspiration will be a blessing to more people.
An Igbo adage says, Ana eji obere amara nnekwu. A man who has no time to fight for you now can’t fight for you when he becomes a political officeholder. Embrace the right people today.
