AAC dissolves rivers, yobe excos, appoints interim leaders for congresses

(DDM) – The African Action Congress (AAC) has dissolved its state executive councils in Rivers and Yobe states ahead of crucial congresses.

The announcement was made through a formal letter dated August 14, 2025, signed by the party’s National Chairman, Omoyele Sowore, and National Secretary, Ina Okopi Agu.

DDM gathered that the letter was addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), informing the commission of the leadership shake-up.

The party said interim executives have been appointed to restructure the organization at ward and local government levels before the state congresses.

The letter, titled “Notification of Probationary Appointment of Interim Excos for Rivers and Yobe States,” was also copied to INEC’s Director of Election and Party Monitoring.

Security agencies, including state police commissioners and Directors of the State Security Service (SSS) in both Rivers and Yobe, were also notified.

For Rivers State, Barrister Ivy West was appointed Interim Chairperson, while Dr. Rosebrey Ohia will serve as Secretary and Ureh V. Ozah as Treasurer.

Other key members of the Rivers interim team include Fyneface Nwabueze as Financial Secretary, Tammy Victor Williams as Publicity Secretary, and Fubara T. Raymond as Organising Secretary.

Justina Briggs was named Woman Leader, Boma F. Banigo Youth Leader, and Barrister Sylverline Omubo Stowe as Legal Adviser.

In Yobe State, Abubakar Jawa Musa was named Interim Chairman, with Fatima Aji as Secretary and Khadija Mu’azu Nguru as Treasurer.

The Yobe interim team also includes Mohammed Musa Ibrahim as Financial Secretary, Mohammed M. Gujba as Publicity Secretary, and Adamu Abubakar Katuzu as Organising Secretary.

Hajiya Halima Bashir will serve as Woman Leader, Dumai Saje Musa as Youth Leader, and Barrister Dauda Kaku as Legal Adviser.

Bassey Uduak was appointed Auditor, while Ahmed Alwali will serve as Vice Chairman.

AAC leadership said the move followed the dissolution of the former state executives in both states, which the party described as “necessary restructuring.”

The interim executives, according to the party, have the mandate to reorganize structures and drive membership mobilisation ahead of the state congresses.

Sowore and Agu emphasized that the interim teams will act for and on behalf of the party until full congresses are conducted.

AAC has repeatedly stressed its commitment to grassroots participation and youth mobilisation as key pillars of its political strategy.

Founded in 2018, the party gained prominence under Sowore’s presidential campaigns and its radical stance against corruption and bad governance.

Political analysts believe the dissolution signals an internal restructuring aimed at strengthening AAC ahead of upcoming elections.

The Rivers and Yobe changes may also reflect broader moves by the party leadership to tighten control of state structures.

Observers say the shake-up will test AAC’s ability to expand its membership and rally support at the grassroots before national contests.

INEC is expected to monitor the implementation of these interim appointments and ensure compliance with the Electoral Act.

The congresses, once held, will determine the permanent leadership structures in Rivers and Yobe states.

AAC’s latest decision underlines the fluid nature of Nigerian party politics, where internal restructuring often precedes major election seasons.

The party says it remains focused on challenging the status quo and mobilising Nigerians for alternative political leadership.
