ABUJA — The African Action Congress (AAC) has inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council as the party steps up preparations for the 2027 presidential election and seeks to strengthen its presence across Nigeria.
The party announced the development in a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, and signed by its Acting National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe, and National Secretary, Oshiokhue Phillip Ikpeminoghena.
According to the statement, the inauguration represents a significant step in the party’s efforts to coordinate campaign activities and mobilise supporters across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The council is expected to bring together political strategists, organisers, policy advocates, media professionals, digital campaigners, election specialists, legal practitioners and finance personnel to support the Sowore–Magashi ticket.
Usman Heads Campaign Council
The AAC appointed Abdullahi Usman as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council. He will be supported by deputies responsible for Strategy and Political Affairs, and Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation.
Juwon Sanyaolu was named secretary of the campaign council.
The party has also established 10 national directorates to manage different aspects of the campaign. Their responsibilities cover strategy and policy, grassroots mobilisation, labour and civil society engagement, publicity and communications, digital media, data and technology, election operations, finance, legal and compliance, and administration and field operations.
The structure is designed to coordinate campaign planning and ensure that different teams work towards shared objectives as the election approaches.
The AAC said the council would extend its activities beyond national and state-level coordination to local government areas, wards and polling units.
At the grassroots level, the campaign will rely on coordinators, volunteers, canvassers, polling agents and supporters to communicate the party’s message and organise participation in communities.
Digital Mobilisation Takes Centre Stage
The party identified its SOWORENOW application as an important part of its existing mobilisation strategy.
According to the AAC, the campaign council would complement and expand the digital platform rather than replace it. The party intends to combine technology with physical outreach, political coordination and community-level engagement.
The strategy is aimed at reaching voters in urban centres, rural communities and areas beyond state capitals.
The party said integrating digital mobilisation with on-the-ground organisation would help it coordinate supporters, strengthen communication and broaden its campaign reach.
The use of digital platforms has become an increasingly prominent feature of political campaigning, allowing parties to communicate with supporters, organise activities and distribute campaign information across different locations.
However, the effectiveness of the AAC’s strategy will depend on its ability to translate online engagement into sustained participation and a coordinated presence at the grassroots.
AAC Outlines Its Political Message
In announcing the inauguration, the party framed the 2027 election as an opportunity to change Nigeria’s political direction.
The AAC said it intended to take its message directly to Nigerians and encourage participation from people who want alternatives to the country’s existing political arrangements.
Its statement argued that national political change should not be left to politicians alone, calling for active participation by citizens.
The party did not present the inauguration merely as an administrative exercise but as the beginning of a more intensive nationwide mobilisation effort.
Sowore, a journalist and human rights activist, secured the AAC presidential ticket in May 2026. Haruna Magashi, a lawyer and human rights advocate, is his running mate for the election.
The pair previously contested the 2023 presidential election under the AAC platform.
Campaign Preparations Gather Pace
The inauguration comes as political parties across Nigeria strengthen their campaign structures ahead of the 2027 general election.
For the AAC, the immediate task will be to coordinate its national leadership, campaign directorates and grassroots supporters into a functioning nationwide organisation.
The council is expected to oversee campaign communication, voter engagement, election operations and mobilisation across different parts of the country.
The party has called on Nigerians who support its vision to participate in its campaign activities.
With the inauguration completed, the Sowore–Magashi campaign is moving into a more organised phase of preparations. Its ability to establish a sustained presence across communities and convert mobilisation into voter support will be a key test as the 2027 election approaches.
