The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this after the State Executive Council meeting.
Governor Alex Otti presided over the meeting, which focused on infrastructural development and public safety.
Kanu emphasized that the government is committed to enhancing the city’s aesthetics and commercial structure.
He stated that the new market site in Afara has been fully acquired.
Compensation has already been paid to the landowners affected by the relocation.
Construction of a perimeter fence around the new market location is currently underway.
The government believes this relocation will improve traffic flow and commercial organization in Umuahia.
Kanu assured traders that the new market will provide better facilities and a more conducive business environment.
The relocation is expected to create space for new transport and beautification projects.
A modern bus terminal will be developed at the former Isigate market site.
The commissioner urged traders to cooperate with authorities to ensure a smooth transition.
He assured them that the government has put measures in place to ease the relocation process.
In addition to market relocation, the government is addressing the issue of counterfeit drugs and beverages.
Kanu issued a strong warning to individuals involved in the production and distribution of fake drugs.
He stated that such activities endanger public health and damage the state’s reputation.
The government has directed security agencies to enforce strict measures against those involved in the illegal trade.
Kanu emphasized that regulatory bodies will work closely with law enforcement to curb these harmful practices.
He warned that anyone caught engaging in the production of fake drugs would face severe consequences.
The government is determined to protect the health and safety of its citizens.
Kanu urged residents to report any suspicious activities related to counterfeit drugs and beverages.
He assured the public that the government will not tolerate any form of illegality.
The government’s urban renewal plan also includes constructing modern bus shelters in Umuahia.
These projects aim to improve public transportation and enhance the city’s overall appearance.
Kanu reiterated that the government is focused on making Umuahia a smart and modern city.
He encouraged residents to support the initiatives aimed at transforming the state capital.
The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable development and economic growth.
