Accountants, finance staff in Zamfara receive training on IPSAS

A capacity building exercise has started in Zamfara for accountants and other staff of the state Ministry of Finance on the essential components of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).

The training started in Gusau on Tuesday with the Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Rabiu Garba, leading the state’s financial officers.

In his speech at the opening of the two-day training, the commissioner said that the aim was to specially train the participants on the marginal transition from IPSAS cash base to IPSAS cash accrual.

He said the exercise would also focus on training of staff on the modern methods of the preparation of the end of year financial statement.

The training was facilitated by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation in collaboration with the Office of the Accountant-General of the state.

Garba gave an assurance that the programme of IPSAS would record 70 per cent success from now till the end of the year 2021.

He also predicted that by the end of the year 2022, it would record 90 per cent success.

The commissioner urged the participants to take advantage of the exercise by paying attention to the training so that the state would be one of the best in financial management and due process in the country. (NAN)
